Androcles and the Lion, Jan Pieter van Baurscheit (de Oude), c. 1700 - c. 1725 Canvas Print

Androcles and the Lion, Jan Pieter van Baurscheit (de Oude), c. 1700 - c. 1725 Canvas Print

On a square plinth stands the slave Androclus with the left leg over the lion, who is kind to him, who jumps to the right between his legs, turns his head and looks up to him. Androclus looks in the direction of his raised right fist and holds the left hand on the mane of the lion, which rests with the chest on a stump. He has a bond through the fluttering hair. A thin drapery hangs down from the raised upper right arm for the shame and is held up around its loins by a thin band.
