Breech-Loading Rifle, System Jacob Snider, P. Stevens, 1857 Canvas Print
Rear loading rifle with tanned, smooth barrel. It has a central firing mechanism of the type Snider: the cartridge is loaded into the back of the barrel, the rooster hits a pin that ends up on the impact hat on the back of the cartridge. When the chamber is open, one can remove the empty cartridge sleeve by pulling the chamber closure backwards: the closure will automatically shoot forward again through the spring around the axis of the chamber closure, a typical feature of all Snider rifles. The rifle has a visor. The discharge stick for removing the empty cartridge sleeve if the other system does not want to work is missing. The rifle is equipped with an equally tanned bayonet with standard bayonet closure, the blade triangular in diameter.
