Bust portrait of Louis XVII in biscuit de porcelaine, anonymous, 1762 - 1792 Canvas Print
Bust portrait of Louis XVII in biscuit de porcelaine, as a boy of about 7 years with long locks up to the shoulders, carrying a chemisette with lace collar, left wide open on the chest; over it a sash from the right shoulder. The left shoulder is wrapped in a drapery drawn across the chest, mounted on a pedestal of dark ultramarine porcelain with golden piping. The brand is that of the manufacture royale de Sevres: tossed, mirror-image L's, whose loop is not, as usual, closed, but open. In it is a small R; nor a modeler's mark consisting of two crossed brackets, corresponding to that of Gatrice, who, however, as far as is known, was employed from 1757-74, whereas that bust cannot be older than 1792. The R in the classic Sevres work with closed loops on the L's, would mean the year 1770.
