Candle crown of three heights with eight arms and three shields each, anonymous, 1717 Canvas Print
The object consists of a round wrought iron rod, an iron pin secured with iron nut and screw and the following cast and then worked on the lathe parts: the hanging ring, the three stem parts, each with a stand ring for the upper, the middle and the lower wreath of eight arms, the sphere, the knob, three shields and three times eight arms with corresponding grease traps, candle holders and pins respectively. The round hanging ring turns into a profiled hollow cylinder at the bottom. The upper trunk part is profiled spherical under the stand ring and has a mushroom shape above the stand ring, the hood of which is decorated with grooved rings and in which three more or less square unnoticed or with one and two notches marked holes are arranged, for the placement of shields. The stand ring decorated with grooved rings is marked at the opening I to VIII. The middle trunk part has above the stand ring the appearance of a baluster-shaped vase decorated with a heavy rib and under the stand ring of a stocky baluster. The stand ring decorated with two or three grooved rings each is marked at the openings I to VIII. The sphere is provided with a hole at the top and bottom. The powerfully profiled button, which ends in a pear-shaped knob, is attached to the wrought iron rod. This narrows upwards and has a gap there, through which the pen is inserted. In the upper trunk part are the three shields inserted, which are marked on the ridge at the bottom unnoticed, or with one and two notches. They are decorated with stylized leaf ornament and a three-bladed crown, bearing the year 1717 and the inscription HUGO SCHAEP / ORDṢ CAPṬ / TERZEE, as well as the following coat of arms: 1 a three-bladed crown, 2 a standing sheep, 3 an arm coming from a cloud, holding a leafy branch in the hand, 4 a crossbar, on which a bird. The S-shaped arms are provided with a ridge on the trunk side to be able to secure them with a pin in the stand rings. There they are marked I through VIII, with the exception of one arm of the wreath in the middle, which is marked with four points instead of IV. At the trunk, the arms at the end and towards the middle are decorated with two stylized dolphin heads and with curls, the shape of which is derived from the quaborament. Outwardly, the arms end in a thickening, in which a threaded hole is arranged to attach the candle holders to the grease traps. The arms are the same size per wreath and are each cast using the same models. The candle holders of the arms of the three wreaths are cylindrical with profiled protruding edge and with a baluster base, which turns into a threaded end, in which at the bottom the center hole. The holders differ from each other and are cast with the help of some models. So not all of them originally belong to this crown. Two holders have a cylinder base. One of these is marked 6B, the other has been added to it. The fat traps of the arms of the lower wreath are deepened once at the top towards the middle, the remaining fat traps twice. At the bottom, they are profiled around the hole in the slightly spherical center, and the edge is ribbed and sometimes grooved. The grease traps are the same size per wreath, and are each cast using the same models. One grease trap of the lower wreath and two of the upper wreath were renewed in later times. The vase-shaped decorated pins show differences between them and are cast with the help of various models. At least four have been counterfeited. A number of arms have been restored.
