Cartoon about the ship The Scorpion and the Dutch Navy, Jan Holswilder, 1886 Canvas Print
The Scorpio, together with other new boats, such as the Buffalo, made up the core of the Royal Netherlands Navy. Expectations were high, but as early as 1886, Scorpio was hit after a clumsy accident with a steamer (The Hercules) in a harbor and sank in just two hours. The ship was rescued and repaired. Top right references to other ships. At the bottom right, on the bottom, is the ship the Viper. This ship had already sunk in 1882. In the result, all the crew were killed. This print was published by De Lantaarn.
