Cartoon on the English, 1673, anonymous, 1673 Canvas Print

Illustration marked 'B', taken from W. Stubbe, 'A Further Justification of the Present War against the United Netherlands', London 1673. The print is a copy of a Dutch cartoon published in 1668 (FMH 2303). The performance shows how the Dutch Virgin triumphs over the personification of England. On the left, a Dutchman chops off the tails of the English dogs. The prints were used by the English as propaganda to justify the war against the United Provinces.
