Chalice glass with allegorical representation, anonymous, c. 1795 Canvas Print

Conical foot. Widening, faceted trunk, going into a curved chalice. On the chalice an allegory of the alliance between the Batavian and French Republics, which was concluded on May 16, 1795. In a landscape with trees stand a Batavian and a Frenchman, who together hold up the poor rich and together a snake, which bites its own tail. In the circle, which forms the snake, two hearts hang from a key. The Batavian kicks on a yoke and on shackles, the Frenchman on a crown and a scepter. Between them in fasces and a lance with a freedom hat. On the left the Batavian lion, on the right the Gallic rooster that chases the English dog away.
