Collar with a Peacock and Floral Pattern, Irene d'Olszowska, c. 1905 Canvas Print

Collar with a Peacock and Floral Pattern, Irene d'Olszowska, c. 1905 Canvas Print

Collar of naturally coloured needle side: Brussels mesh side. Round model. The repetitive and symmetrical pattern consists of two resented male peacocks, with drooping tails and sitting on a round medallion of flowers. Between the successive peacock pairs there is always a column, which tapers towards the middle of the collar, with a flower garland at the top held by the peacocks in the beak. Along the neckline runs a connecting pattern with stylized water lilies. All edges are finished with a geometric pattern with, among other things, openwork squares. The motifs are connected by a mesh ground. The motifs are made with feston stitches and feature embossed contour lines. Ornamental signs have been used, among other things, in the openwork medallions, the openwork squares along the edges and in the columns and peacock tails.
