Compass in binnacle, George Stebbing, 1819 Canvas Print
Compass in night house with pyramid-shaped hood with a rose in separate box. The night house has a door at the front. The four sides of the hood are made of glass; two of them are closed with a copper plate, the third with such a plate on which a lamp holder is mounted. The lamp is missing. The compass rose has a brass cap in the middle with hole in front of the pin at the bottom: the turning of the rose was improved by the materials used, while the rocking was reduced by the propagation of the frictional surface of the ruby.
