Crozier head, anonymous, c. 1375 - c. 1400 Canvas Print
From an open lion's owl sprouts a leafy twig of a vine, which bends over in a curl and ends in a dragon, the head of which with outstretched tongue and the tips of its protruding wings rejoin the lower part of the twig. The claws of the dragon rest on the shoulders of a youth bent over, turned away from the twigstam, who puts his hands forward in a prayerful position and stands with both feet on the lower jaw of the lion's mouth. In the curl are depicted Christ with aureole on the cross between Mary and John. The saggy body of Christ is turned to Mary who, looking up to him, holds both hands open in a gesture. John carries a book and stares pensively at Christ with the fingers of the right hand against the chin. Above the cross against the curvature of the vine sun and moon. On the reverse side, Mary stands with the child on the left arm and with a fruit in the right hand, between two angels who are tormented to her. The child has put his arm around her shoulders and holds a fruit in the left hand (?). On each of the four large corner leaves of the vine a rosette in silver.
