D'Arminiaensche dreckwaghen, anonymous, 1618 Canvas Print

D'Arminiaensche dreckwaghen. Cartoon on the Arminians from 1618. The performance shows how the most important representatives of the Remonstrants and some other reformers are taken away in a car. The wagon is pulled by two wild horses called 'onenichheyt' who both want to go in a different direction. In the car are Johannes Wtenbogaert (on the goat), Jacobus Arminius, Petrus Bertius, Conradus Vorstius, Jacobus Taurinus, David Joris, Adolphus Venator, Dirck Volkertsz Coornhert and the 'Afvallighe Weder-dooper'. In front of the car are two Jesuits. On the right in the foreground, two Arminians try in vain to get a counter-demonstratant preacher on the wagon. The man on the left with a burning torch shows the car the way and introduces Johan van Oldenbarnevelt. This edition of the print has French inscriptions alongside the Dutch ones. Under the performance is a text sheet pasted with verses and legends in French.
