De onsterfelijke (sennin) Ôkyô, Yashima Gakutei, c. 1821 - c. 1822 Canvas Print
A high-ranking courtesan cries on to a kimonorek, while the two geese under her feet carry her through the air. The immortal Ôkyô was of regal origin, but left his family to become a monk on a mountain. His family was only allowed to visit him on the seventh day of the seventh month. When his family arrived at the mountain they saw him flying away on a white crane. This series persiflates immortal men (sennin) by portraying them as courtesans.
