Allegorical representation. The dead shoots his arrow at an armed crowd of young and old, poor and rich men and women coming out of a gate. They try to defend themselves against the arrows of death. Father Tijd lashes out with his scythe at instruments of science such as globe and compass, but also objects relating to the arts. Fame is driven away by Death. In the background, death shoots his arrows at elephants and other animals. Under the performance is a Dutch and Latin verse about this struggle of and against death.
