Diorama with a tent boat, Gerrit Schouten, 1817 Canvas Print

Diorama with a tent boat with six rowers and a helmsman. The rectangular cabinet is covered on the inside with painted paper. An upwards sloping bottom represents the river. The back wall is painted with a representation of a plantation and trees. The six enslaved men rowing the boat wear a white livery, red sash and a black top hat. The tent part of the boat is intended for the passengers who could sit out of the sun and rain. This part has four windows on both sides with shutters that could be opened with a stick. The fence of the boat is decorated with carvings and centrally a medallion with the initials G S and the year 1817. The Dutch flag flies on the back of the tent boat.
