Dream-plagued sleeper, Gerard de Lairesse, 1685 - 1689 Canvas Print
A sleeping man lies in a room filled with figures that give him agonizing dreams. Next to his bed, a woman urges the figures to silence and shows them the door. At the foot end, someone tries to stop a griffin from pouncing on the bed, on the left a sleeping naked figure leans on a pedestal. Above the bed, a dragon, a putto with jug and a winged figure appeared in the clouds. The latter tries to ward off the personified Envy.
