The interior of the entrance to basement A: a narrow, high trench of concrete. These bomb-proof cellars were built in 1940, after the shelters in North Holland villages proved to be not safe. The museum's collection items were evacuated there in 1939. Approximately 25,000 cubic meters of sand were moved for construction. In 1941 the new cellars were put into use.
