Fire screen of linen, stretched over scalloped, wooden (?) frame, embroidered at the front with multicolored wool and printed at the back with a putto with flower dish, mounted on walnut stick, Johan Teyler, c. 1688 - c. 1720 Canvas Print
The irregularly scalloped screen is embroidered on the front with multicolored wool in petit-point and gros-point. Central to the asymmetrical pattern are two birds weded each other on a branch, in the midst of flower and leaf motifs. The long tails and the baroque structure of the pattern are unusual and as yet cannot be traced back to examples from pattern books. The walnut stick is placed on the screen from a nodus. The back of the screen is printed with a beige putto with gray wings, which holds a bowl of colored flowers above his head. The flower basket without the putto can be found in an album with prints by Johan Teyler in the Rijksprentenkabinet (inv. RP-P-1955-195), but in a more extensive album in the British Museum, London (inv. 1871-12-9-5027(25)) is the entire representation of putto and basket.
