Four views of the Orlov (Orloff) diamond. With a descriptive caption in French and Dutch about the diamond and its Iranian owner Gregorio Saffraz from Amsterdam. The diamond of 189 carats was auctioned in Amsterdam in 1767 and sold to Count Grigory Orlov (1734-1783). He gave the diamond as a gift to his mistress Empress Catherine the Great (1729-1796) and in 1774 she had the diamond put in the imperial sceptre.
