Gabriel Grub is a fictional character in The Pickwick Papers, written by Charles Dickens in 1836. Grub is the literary forerunner of Ebenezer Scrooge and the story bears many similarities to A Christmas Carol. Grub is a grumpy undertaker. One day he is kidnapped by the king of the gnomes to his underground hiding place. There he gets to see scenes that change his feelings about humanity and the Christmas party for the better.
