Galley slaves on both sides of a cartouche, Cornelis de Wael (workshop or), Cornelis de Wael, Cornelis de Wael, 1647 Canvas Print

The cartouche in the middle contains a commission in Latin and is decorated with the coat of arms of the Laredo family and two winged women's busts. On either side of the cartouche sits a chained galley slave, an enslaved Muslim man (recognizable by his typical hairstyle and ankle buoy), with oars under his feet. Behind each of them is a galley slave with a musical instrument. The left man plays a trumpet and the right one a drum. In the background cannons and various flags. Adapted title print for the 1647 edition of this series.
