Girl in a Large Hat, Caesar Boëtius van Everdingen, c. 1645 - c. 1650 Canvas Print

The half-figure of a young woman stands against a light sky in bright sunlight. She wears a hat with a very wide brim, which is braided from stripes of rosé and white cloth. As a result, her face falls half into the shadows; her eyes, shrouded in the shadows, are focused on the viewer. She wears a satin white robe, which leaves the shoulder bare. A rose ribbon falls from the hat onto her bare shoulder, another wider ribbon of the same color serves as a belt. The girl holds up a basket of slightly violet plums with two arms. The horizon is quite low, so that at the bottom of the piece only the tops of trees can be seen.
