Ceremony of laying the first stone for the railway bridge in Zutphen, performed by King William III on 22 October 1861. The company under a kind of canopy decorated with garlands and weapons, centrally a scaffolding with the first stone, to the left of which the king signs an act that is bricked in at the first stone. Representation of company under decorated arches, with party stand. Over the entire width you can see a row of round poles / masts, with garlands wrapped, and at a higher level with crossbars, also with garlands. All the way above are semicircular poles. Together, the poles form a kind of arch of honour, over which garlands hang draped and to which weapons and banners are attached. Below is a large crowd of people, mainly gentlemen, partly in costume and several with insignia. On the far right in front group of hussars with musical instruments (at rest...). Central is group of gentlemen, with in their midst man in uniform with stitch on and quip in right hand, left hand resting on three-legged lectern, on which roll of paper, hanging largely over the edge of lectern. Behind him row gentlemen in uniform, ministers and other dignitaries (see for names legend). To the right of lectern is a small platform of piled bricks. On a platform form you can see (only partially) rectangular stone, obliquely standing / hanging from cables in hoist. This hoist consists of three masts with garlands, trestle standing against each other, with pulley hanging at the top. To the right of the platform is cast iron tool, with which the cables can be wound up and down (with cogwheel wheels). In the foreground l.l. three children, behind bush and ornamental vase on pedestal, with flowers in it. In the background stand with group of women sitting in two rows. Between left and right stand is a chair under canopy with richly decorated handrails and coat of arms on upholstery, with a chair on either side. Above beamed roof hangs coat of arms with a national coat of arms, flanked by banners with crowned W. Weapons, hanging in masts, front, from left to right: - state coat of arms, in full execution, with two flags on both sides; - coat of arms with coat of arms of the province of Holland; - coat of arms with coat of arms of the province of Groningen. Back (partly visible), from left to right: - coat of arms with coat of arms of the province of Utrecht; - pennant with the coat of arms of the city of Zutphen to the right of it; - state coat of arms above canopy (see description above); - coat of arms with coat of arms of the city of Arnhem; - coat of arms of the province of Gelderland (presumably: only the right half is visible).
