Hoftuin with David and Batseba, Pieter van der Borcht (I), c. 1600 - c. 1601 Canvas Print
A court garden. In the middle of the print you can see Batseba, who is bathing by a fountain. King David (top left) sees her from his roof terrace (2 Samuel 11:2). He sends an usher (bottom left) with the command to bring Batseba to the palace (2 Samuel 11:4). The usher then delivers the message to the still bathing Batseba. A monkey (sinfulness) and two peacocks (pride) watch the events. The print is part of an album.
