Dog and Lion Dance. Cartoon on the English during the First Anglo-Dutch War, 1652. On the left, Oliver Cromwell and a Spaniard dance with a dog (Fairfax?) and two chained prisoners, the konterman (= countryman) and the Irishman. They trample the English crown and flag. On the right, the Netherlands Lion dances with lance and freedom hat and several other men, representatives of Denmark (?), France and Germany. At the top three smaller scenes with links: Charles II is given the sceptre; middle: Cromwell and the dog are attacked by the Dutch lion and four other men; right: Freedom with the two freed prisoners. Under the plate printed a verse of 3 columns in Dutch.
