Jan Blanken Jansz., Superintendent of Waterworks, Jean Augustin Daiwaille, 1820 - 1838 Canvas Print

Jan Blanken (1755-1838) is dressed in the uniform of Inspector-General of the WaterStaat. He contributes the order signs belonging to (from left to right) the Order of the Red Eagle of Prussia, the Order of the Netherlands Lion and the Order of the Legion of Honor. The Willemssluizen in Amsterdam are probably depicted in the background. The Willemssluizen form the entrance to the Noord-Hollands Kanaal, which was completed in 1824 and was one of the most well-confessed works of the hydraulic engineer Blanken. The locks were named after the client King William I.
