Man Confronted with Moses and the Reign of Sin, Frans Huys, 1546 - 1562 Canvas Print
Two biblical allegories in architectural framing. On the left, Man is grabbed and addressed by Moses, while the personification of disobedience grabs him on the other arm and Sin keeps him bound. On the right, Man stands before the throne of Sin, to whom he is presented by the personification of the Law. The performance shows the desolate situation of man, who becomes aware of his sin through the knowledge of the law. Under both performances a four-line verse in Lower Dutch and a four-line text in Latin. Number 5 and 6 from a reformatory series about the sinfulness and justification of man.
