March, 28 December 1976, Cary Markerink, 1976 Canvas Print
Part of a series of photographs that capture a protest march of a group of Caribbean and Arowakken who walked from their homes on the coast via Albina to Paramaribo in four days at the end of December 1976. With their action they asked attention for their fundamental rights and the general position of the descendants of the original inhabitants of Suriname. In Paramaribo they were received in the presidential palace by President J. Ferrier. The photographer was friends with one of the initiators and walked along with the march.
