Model of a Bread Oven, anonymous, 1860 - 1870 Canvas Print
Model of a machine oven on a ground shelf. It is a box-shaped construction that can be divided into two halves to show the inside. In the middle of the long front is a fireplace with underground askuil. Inside, the hot gases are routed through flat channels to the four corners, from there up to a metal double attic above the oven and finally through a schoortsteen outwards; the chimney has a valve that can be operated from the outside. The ducts have valves in the corners that can be operated with a key from the outside. The actual bread oven is a large space in the middle through which chains run from one side to the other without end; on these chains, racks with the loaves are placed and transported by a cog on either side of the front from one side to the other. With ten screws protruding above the roof, the height of the chains can be determined. Inside are four long bars; by shrinking or turning off under the influence of the heat, they each move a pointer on a dial next to the oven doors. On both short sides, the following doors can be located from bottom to top: a door for an apparte ordinary oven, two doors that give access to the smoke ducts, a wide door for access to the mechanical oven and finally three doors that gives access to the space above the double attic. A water tank is installed in the roof, with a tap at the front of the oven.
