Model of screw-propeller lifting gear, H. Huijgens, 1853 - 1856 Canvas Print

Model of a screw shaft between stern and rudder stems, with part of the keel. The screwlighter consists of a separate frame with an ordinary two-bladed screw, which can be hoisted up and down in the tube on a rope, which runs over two discs at the top of the screw sleeve and two discs in the screw frame. The screw is connected to the propeller shaft in a slot; with the slot in the vertical position, the screw can be disconnected. The screw window moves over vertical rails against the stern and the screw stems, which are provided with teeth; this includes ratchets of the screw window that prevent slipping back. The ratchets can be held back by pulling two ropes, so that the screw window can sink. The mik that prevents the screw from turning when hoing is mounted in the screw frame and is operated by a long cap wrench from above. The model is very detailed and can be taken apart, so that the composition of the lining, the propeller shaft etc. can be viewed.
