Boniface goes to Friesland in 754 with a retinue, to convert the Frisians to Christianity. At Dokkum he sets up a camp and convenes a large meeting to jointly administer the sacrament of the holy confirmation to the newly converted. Boniface and his entourage are attacked by a group of armed Frisians. Boniface commands his followers not to use their weapons to prevent a massacre.
