Pair of wheellock rifles with spanner from Cornelis Tromp, anonymous, c. 1650 - c. 1690 Canvas Print

Wheel lock rifle or bird rudder. A hunting weapon with drawn runs of small caliber, equipped with hair puller (Stecher) and precision visor, intended to shoot sitting game. The octagonal walks are 69 cm long and have eight right-hand features; The caliber is 12 mm. The walnut drawers have a so-called German stock, inlaid with deer horn, leg and mother-of-pearl; apart from lions, unicorns, birds, dogs and griffins, flowers and fruits, a left-handed hunter is depicted on the flasks standing with his right foot on his dog's tail, pointing his bow, imposed on a tree, at an invisible bird and thus giving us a clear picture of how these bends were shot. Wheel lock with outside wheel spinning behind an iron ring. No brands or signature. The shape of the flasks is German, but the inlay comes from Teschen in Silesia, where until the second half of the seventeenth century the gunmaking art flourished and where they specialized in making so-called Teschinken, light hunting rifles with a wheel lock of peculiar construction.
