Peter Marks with his third and fourth wife, Daniel Nikolaus Chodowiecki, 1779 Canvas Print
On the left, Peter Marks' third wife chokes on a parchment-written poem that hid one of her admirers in a piece of cake. Right, Peter Marks and his fourth wife. Out of frugality, she locked up all of her husband's clothes under lock and key. She even suggests patching up Peter's worn trousers with fabric from one of her old slip dresses. Out of anger at this, Peter Marks throws the slip dress out of the window on which his fourth wife dies in terror. Numbered: III and IV.
