Portrait of a member of the SD. It concerns the Dutchman Jan Meekhof (see inscription on the back). Member of the SD, (German) Sicherheitsdienst. Distinctives not to be seen, only shoulder covering. As an SD-er he was involved in various actions against the resistance. For example, he belonged to the firing squad that shot 20 Frisians on 26 January 1945 in Dokkum in retaliation. On 29 January 1945 he shot dead the resistance fighter Johannes Kolf who opposed his arrest. On 8 December 1944, Kolf was involved in the raid on the prison in Leeuwarden. Johannes "Jodocus" Kolf (1916) worked from 1937 to 1942 at the police in Utrecht. He resigned because he could not agree with the work of the police under the German occupation. After that he was active in the resistance. He died aged 29.
