Portrait of Catharina van Braam Houckgeest, anonymous, c. 1790 Canvas Print
Rear glass painting with portrait of Mrs Catharina Cornelia Geertruida van Braam Houckgeest, born Van Reede van Oudtshoorn. The portrait has the shape of a painted medallion that is held up by an allegorical female figure (the Hope). De Hoop sits on a balustrade that partly hides behind a (probably) Perzich carpet. In the balustrade, a farewell scene is sculpted in riot: two women wave a ship out, including the text 'Vota sequuntur euntem', our good wishes accompany the one who leaves. On the right side of the balustrade you can see the coats of arms of the spouses. On the carpet an incense burner (Asia). The top of the painting is a (now weathered) speigel.
