Portrait of a working minister H.J. van Mook (1894-1965). During the Second World War he was minister of colonies in the war cabinet in London. In the interwar period he was one of the progressive forces in the Dutch East Indies around the magazine 'De Stuw'. Despite his views, he became a top official at the Indian Government. After japan's invasion, he sn were sent to Australia and moved from there to London. There he became Minister of Colonies. After 1945 he became the highest Dutch authority in the Dutch East Indies until he resigned bitterly out of dissatisfaction with the India policy of the post-war cabinets. He then became a professor in the United States. In the period 1941-1948 he was: minister, Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies. This photo comes from the legacy of artist Cor Visser.
