This portrait of Jean Parisot de La Valette honours this Grand Master of the Maltheser knights. Portrait in half with armor standing behind a balustrade. An angel holds a laurel wreath over his head. In 1565 Valetta had successfully defended Malta for an attack by the Turks. In 1566 he immediately started building fortifications in Malta and these activities are shown on the print. The gaze of the person portrayed is focused on the sky above the landscape where Christ appears as Salvator Mundi in a halo. Above the print is a German prayer in two lines from the Lord's Prayer. Below the portrait, the man is decorated in three lines of Latin text and a German line.
