Portrait of Jodocus Hondius and Gerard Mercator, Hendrick Hondius (rejected attribution), 1613 Canvas Print

The scholars and cartographers Gerard Mercator (1512-1594) and Jodocus Hondius (1563-1612) are depicted together among their instruments related to their profession. Both have produced maps and celestial and world globes and constructed astronomical instruments. The portrait appeared in 1613 in Mercator's 'Atlas', published by Jodocus Hondius in Amsterdam. It has long been attributed to the engraver Hendrick Hondius, but this attribution was rejected in 1994.
