Maria of Hungary (1505-1558), younger sister of Charles V, Queen Dowager of Hungary, regent of the Netherlands from 1531 to 1555. Her husband Louis II of Hungary was killed in 1526 at the Battle of Mohacz against the Turks. Since that year, the regent has been dressed in black with the white widow's hood. She has been depicted so repeatedly in bust portraits. Here she is depicted as a horsewoman in travel clothes on a walking horse to the right. Top left her coat of arms.
