Proclamation to the shepherds by angelic choirs, Johann Sadeler (I), 1587 Canvas Print

In the dark night, the shepherds, who sit around a fire, are startled by angelic choirs in a brightly lit cloudy sky. They proclaim the birth of Christ: in the middle at the bottom an angel with pennant on which the text GLORIA IN EXCELSIS DEO, PAX HOMINIBUS BONAE VOLUNTATIS. Above him nine angels who together... sing. Each angel has a band with the musical notation of his part in his hands. The music is by the Flemish composer Andreas Pévernage (1543-1591), who made the motet especially for this print. His name is mentioned on banderol VI and IX. Latin inscription above the performance.
