Redesign of the West Courtyard 1929, 1929 Canvas Print
Western courtyard, after the renovation. Stairs to entrance tower VI in the southeast corner of the western courtyard (compare photo 501). The wooden floor in the courtyard caused so many problems that it was replaced by an elevated concrete floor in 1927. This created a layer of souterain, 2.25 meters, and the raised exhibition floor that can be seen here in the photo. With half-stone walls, three halls were then furnished in the courtyard. The original facades of the courtyard were hidden from view by a low ring wall. In the gap, a 'proliferation of channels and pipes' was created. The walls are painted white.
