Salinometer, A.P. How, 1850 - 1865 Canvas Print
Salinometer, incomplete. It consists of a heavy copper tube or barrel with two pipes at the bottom. One pipe has a tap and serves as a supply for the boiler water; the vessel is filled and the excess water runs out of the vessel through an overflow to the second pipe. This makes it possible to measure a constant flow of boiler water, to determine an average. After the measurement, the water that remains in the vessel can be discharged to the drain pipe by means of a second tap. In the vessel itself there is a brass cylinder for the hydrometer (missing) and a thermometer. Against the outside, a light and a round reflection mirror are placed on a hinged arm, to be able to read the salinometer in the dark boiler room. Against the back is a mounting plate. The inscription on the front is provided with the English coat of arms.
