Samson Fighting Two Philistines, anonymous, c. 1750 Canvas Print
The pyramidal group, placed on an uneven ground, is formed by Samson, who stands with his legs spread and briefly saggy in the knees over a kneeling male figure, who in turn stands above a man lying on the earth. Samson, whose right raised arm with club or chinshole is missing, grabs with the left hand behind his back in the direction of the left arm of the kneeling figure, which includes Samson's right thieve. He has placed his right knee on the man lying beneath him, who lies on his own left hand with his legs raised and whose head is pushed away with his mouth open by the right foot of Samson, whose left foot stands on a stump.
