Shutters of the Night Watch Extension, 1906 - 1915 Canvas Print
Night watch extension from the northwest. The shutters, for which the slats hang, provide the shielding of the southwestern side light of the Night Watch. After countless fruitless attempts to improve the lighting of the Night Watch, it was decided to build a new room for the painting. On July 16, 1906, the Night Watch extension was opened. The light enters through a high, partly shielded, window on the south side. Until 1926, the Night Watch hung in this extension.
