Stained glass window with the text W.F.DIXON Pinxit LONDON 1884, c. 1900 - c. 1999 Canvas Print
The panel with the text "W.F.DIXON Pinxit LONDON 1884" ("painted by W.F. Dixon in London in 1884") is part of a panel depicting Rembrandt. In turn, this is part of a window that depicts painters and professions. It is installed in the Voorhal. In 1882, P.J.H. Cuypers organised a competition for the design of stained glass windows for the Voorhal of the Rijksmuseum. He invited six artists to participate and to send in a test window with Apelles. Five of them responded: W.F. Dixon, H.J.J. Geuer, F. Nicolas and the Tiroler Glasmalerei und Cathedralenglashuette. Dixon was eventually commissioned and his window was placed. The four remaining test windows will be kept in the Rijksmuseum.
