Statuette of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, Emanuel Bardou, 1778 - 1779 Canvas Print
The king (1712-1786) sits on a horse going at a walking pace, which has raised the right foreleg and lifts the left hind leg off the ground for a moment; the head is slightly to the right. He holds the rein with one hand, while the other rests in the side. He wears a uniform consisting of a jacket with jabot, gloves and boots; on the head a wig and stitch, on the jacket the Order of the Black Eagle, a sash to the waist a stinge and a fig to the left side. The saddle, with equestrian pistols in holsters under a flap on both sides, is placed on a shaft, which, like the holster valve, is decorated with C-volutes in Louis XV style and with fringe. The horse, which carries a head harness, is connected to the ground, an oval slab, which is recessed into a profiled marble pedestal. This shows decorations in bronze on four sides: aam the obverse a cartouche with the monogram F[redericus] R[ex] framed by two palm leaves, above which the king's crown; on one side a lyre over a music book and a flute with a laurel wreath across it; on the other side a shield with Medusa head, including a helmet and the sling, the grip of which shows an eagle's head, over the whole a laurel wreath; on the reverse a horn of plenty with ears of corn by a band connected to a raised leafy branch.
