Steam engine, Sophia Wilhelmina Evans, 1782- 1816 Canvas Print
Steam pumping station that was founded in 1786/1787 by the Bataafsch society der Proefondervindelijke Wijsbegeerte in Rotterdam to drain the Polder Blijdorp on the Rotterdam Schie. Since the Batavian Society was dominated by Patriots, the consort was nicknamed 'the Keezending'. In 1902 and later more extensively in 2004, the foundations of the pumping station were archaeologically examined.
