In a gazebo of the Garden of Versailles, a tableau is performed for Louis XIV and his company in which the Four Seasons - symbolized by animals from the king's menagerie - appear. In the middle, Pan and Diana sit on a structure shaped like a rock with trees. Pan is played by Molière, Diana by Mlle de Béjart. On either side of the rock the animals that are supposed to represent the seasons: to the right of it a horse (spring) and an elephant (summer); to the left of it a camel (autumn) and a bear (winter).
