Tankard, anonymous, c. 1700 Canvas Print
Porcelain beer mug, with a spherical body and C-shaped ear ending in a dragon's head. Painted on the glaze in blue, red, green, yellow, eggplant, turquoise, black and gold. The belly is covered with loose flowers against a background of green 'frogdril'. In it, four pomegranate-shaped boxes with in two a fishing scene, in one two boys with a birdcage in a fenced garden and one with two men in a fenced garden throwing coins in a basket with a frog. Between the boxes twice a sample head with a ring. Above the foot and on the shoulder a band with leaf and ruyimotives. On the neck a band of interconnected boxes containing a chilong (hornless dragon) carved between flames in red. The background consists of loose flowers on a dotted, turquoise ground. Above the shoulder a band with a wave motif with valuables above it (artemisia leaf, pearl, diamond, music stone, coin), happiness symbols (shell, infinite knot, chakra, lotus, fish) and antiquities (scrolls, coral) and a swastika. On the edge a band with lotus vines. European forms with famille verte.
