The Annunciation, Tilman Riemenschneider, c. 1485 - c. 1487 Canvas Print
Mary kneels on a small ground to the left and slightly turned towards the viewer, in front of a lectern, on which a book lies; she stares out in front of her. She rests the left hand on the slammed book, while she has wrapped her cloak around the lectern and partly over the book with the right, from where he depends in folds. The lectern has window-shaped openings in front and to the side in the plinth and above it an equally open door, of which lock, draw ring and hinges are visible. Mary's hair falls in wavy tresses over back and shoulders. She wears a rug with sleeves and an angular neck cut, above which a second rug emerges. The cloak hangs from her right shoulder in a wide arch over the back and is held up with the left forearm. The mantle hem shows the same painted three-pass motif as that of the angel.
