The Hazen fighters, Johann Theodor de Bry, 1596 Canvas Print
Hare hunter in 'mis-parti' (clothing, the right side of which is different from the left). On his head a top hat with a wide brim on the right. Around his waist hang hares. In the right hand he holds a foxtail and over his shoulder a long glue stick on which birds are glued and small monkeys sit. In the left hand he has a stick with an owl. Around his head swarm insects. On the floor a defecating dog. In the background a jester, a monkey and two hares as 'bird catchers'. Persiflage on the whims of contemporary fashion. Emblem no. 16 in Emblemata Saecularia, 1596 (on the print the number is mistakenly reversed) and no. 37 in the second edition of 1611.
